Celebrating 25 years of Meleka

His musical journey began alongside Zebron Kankhunda in 1999 with their debut single "Lululu" under Rhem Records, supported by Mr  Elton Kazemba

Evance Meleka, Malawi's renowned producer, songwriter and singer based in Lilongwe, marks 25 years in the music industry today, since bursting into the music scenery on  July 23, 1999. 


His musical journey began alongside Zebron Kankhunda in 1999 with their debut single "Lululu" under Rhem Records, supported by Mr  Elton Kazemba which then was followed by a Scintillating  album "Ndasangalala," featuring hits like "Lululu" and "Tidzanka Konko," a tribute to the late Evison Matafale. 

Continuing prolifically, Meleka and Zebron produced notable tracks such as "Mawanga Akhanga" and "Adakukana." Meleka also collaborated with Stain Manyowa and Soul Chembezi on songs like "Kanyenya Tchipisi Kunyumba Kuli Thelele" which made him consolidate his status as one of the Iconic music figures to ever grace the land .

Whilst with  Raph Records, Meleka composed ten gospel songs performed by prominent Malawian artists including Dr. Ethel Kamwendo Banda, Favored Sisters, Thoko Suya, Chimwemwe Mhango, the late George Mkandawire, Yasin Janela, and the late Grace Chinga. One of these songs, "Abwezi Apadziko Amakukonda Pa Mtendere," remains cherished. 


In 2010, inspired by a divine calling, Meleka transitioned to gospel music, renaming himself Evance Watsopano Meleka, symbolizing leaving the past behind and focusing on preaching divine message courtesy of gospel music . His approach and golden voice garnered newfound popularity, releasing impactful songs like "Baraba," "Yanokola," "Khapikekhapike," and "Adzakuiwala." He was recently featured in "Nseri" by Miracle Chinga, daughter of the late Grace Chinga.

 

Meleka has also mentored upcoming gospel artists, including Andrew Masiku and Brenda Onsewa. He continues to be a beacon of Hope and inspiration amongst upcoming musicians in the land .

Reflecting on his 25-year milestone, Meleka expressed joy and delight to his music endeavors which has been pivotal in his life and progress , celebrating alongside his peers who began their musical careers together and highlighted his future plans of releasing three music projects.


Meleka continues to compose songs  for prominent gospel  musicians in the country whose identity is always kept anonymous  for privacy reasons.

 

Married with four children – Abigail, Elepha, Evance Meleka Jr., and Awesome Meleka – he has built a God fearing family which has also been involved in the preaching of the gospel through music with  introduction of his children in the gospel music industry as the  Covenant Kids.
