Honourable Chimwendo Banda acknowledged the significance of MAWU's role in promoting Malawian literature and culture.
Minister of Local Government, Unity, and Culture, Honourable Richard Chimwendo Banda, hosted a delegation from the Malawi Writers Union (MAWU) at his office.
The meeting aimed to strengthen ties between the government and MAWU, the oldest arts association in Malawi.
The MAWU delegation, led by President Shadreck Chikoti, expressed gratitude for the meeting and introduced its members.
Honourable Chimwendo Banda acknowledged the significance of MAWU's role in promoting Malawian literature and culture.
The Minister recognized the importance of literature in shaping the country's identity and contributing to national development.Â
During the meeting, MAWU outlined its plans and challenges, including the need for office space and funding for various projects.
The organization expressed its commitment to supporting the government's Vision 2063 agenda and contributing to the country's socio-economic development.Â
The Minister assured MAWU of his ministry's support and cooperation in promoting the arts and culture in Malawi.
He acknowledged the government's efforts in uplifting the arts industry, including the passing of the National Arts and Heritage Council Bill (NAHEC).
The meeting concluded with a pledge from Honourable Chimwendo Banda to support MAWU's initiatives and collaborate with the organization to promote Malawian literature and culture.
